I think GitHub had its hay day. It’s hit a plateau.
5.0Current Employee / Engineer II, Software Development & Engineering
Pros: Fantastic teammates and benefits. The health benefits are incredible. Haven’t seen anything else like it.
Cons: Leadership is stagnant and worthless. People get into leadership roles and never leave or pull people in from other companies who are buddies.

Great Brand
5.0Current Employee / Director of Customer Success
Pros: Great Culture and brand. Amazing benefits. Fully remote company that uses GitHub to build GitHub. Owned by Microsoft with shares and ESPP. I learned a lot while the business was growing! The company is trying to get out of startup cul...
Cons: Runs a very lean business in multiple departments and functions which does not scale as quickly as the business needs. Team members are stretched due to workload. Can be chaotic in communications internally and externally.

A lot has changed
3.0Current Employee / Marketing Operations
Pros: - Great benefits ($6500 a year for home office, fitness classes, etc.) - Competitive pay - Remote work environment
Cons: - Everything is a last minute, all hands on deck fire drill since CEO left in 2025 - No direction or over-arching goals for the company - No opportunities for growth (promotions, L&D) - Toxic culture with bad managers

Microsoft influence increasing, for the worse
3.0Current Employee / Operations Lead
Pros: Really talented people, good benefits, generally good WLB outside of peak times (Universe, etc)
Cons: Microsoft’s influence has continued to grow, to the detriment of company culture, clear leadership vision, and more. We’ve been operation with 0 resources and have not been backfilling positions, and are expected to keep up with competitors
